Homcoming Nominations

It’s that time of the year again, where Hawks vote for their favorite people to be Homecoming royalty.
Any student can send in their nominations by going to the Horizon webpage and clicking on the link that says “Homecoming Nominations.” Anybody can be nominated, and the people with the most nominations go on to be the nominees for winning the title.
To some Hawks, being nominated can be a huge honor, but that isn’t always the case. “I’d be really embarrassed and shocked if I got nominated without knowing,” freshman Holly Hunsaker said. “I wouldn’t like that; I’d be pretty embarrassed if it were me,” junior Carson Mattie said.
On the other hand, many students expressed joy in the possibility of getting nominated. “I’d feel honored,” said junior Eric Gutierrez. Sophomore Donny Gay said, “that’d be dope,” and sophomore Bryan Shannon said, “If I got nominated, I guess that’d be pretty sick.”
Whether the future nominees will be honored or embarrassed, Horizon’s committee of Homecoming royalty nominees will be determined later this month, and the winners will be crowned during the homecoming game, October 1.

Traffic problems are hectic this year! No buses means having to find alternative transportation to school. For two students this meant riding a bike. On August 31,2010, while on their way to school those two students got hit by a car on 128th on a crosswalk. Luckily there were no serious or fatal injuries. Officers are still investigating whether it was the drivers or the students’ fault. School traffic is crazy this year. These things are never planned or expected. The following tips will help you while traveling to and from school, or if an accident occurs.
Watch Out!
- Always wear a helmet
- Be careful! The glare of the sun makes it hard to see
- Pay attention to signs
- Stop at stop signs!
- Look both ways before crossing the street
- “Be prepared if an accident happens!” Mr. Garcia
- “Look, don’t assume” Mr. Lawrence
Somebody Call…
- 911?.. If needed!
- Parents? For advice!

Goodbye Barbecue
600 staff and students attended Horizon’s annual Senior BBQ in the little gym due to nasty weather for the 500 graduating seniors on May 13.
“I thought it was a great way to end the year, and a good way to spend time as a class. It wasn’t until the barbecue that it actually hit me that graduation is in three days,” senior Vanessa Wynne said.
Even though the gathering consisted of endless barbecue and other delicious snacks, most of the seniors sat in the middle of the gym signing yearbooks and reminiscing on the last four years.

German foreign exchange students are forced to stay in America for one more week because the volcanic ash clouds in Iceland are preventing flight.
Cristoph:I am very happy to stay here for another week. My parents are in Egypt so they are stuck too.
Elisabeth and Michael: We are very glad to stay because we didn’t want to leave Sunday. Our house families are excited to keep us and we’re excited to spend more time with the Americans.
Previous Story – Long live Germany! Horizon has recently hsted German exchange students, and everyone was so excited to meet the new foreigners. The Profile staff has recently interviewed a few of the exchange students about life in Germany, life in America, and how they feel about being 5,000 miles away from home.
Profile Interviewers: Why did you want to come to America?
Florian: The American girls!
Lukas: We wanted to see what life’s like in America.
PI: Are you going to prom?
Lukas: Yes, but we can’t go with dates. We’re all just going as friends.
PI: What do you usually do for fun in Germany?
Lukas: We usually go to parties!
Peter: Yeah, the parties!!
PI: What’s your favorite part of America?
Florian: The coast!
Peter: Everything except Texas.
PI: What’s the biggest difference about America?
Peter: The school. Here everybody talks to everybody all the time. In Germany we’re not allowed.
PI: Does any of you have any boyfriends or girlfriends back at home?
Laura: No.
Lukas: That’s why we came to America!
PI: What’s the fashion like in Germany?
Laura: It’s the same as America, we imitate your fashions.
PI: What about the movies and music?
Corinna: It’s also the same, we just have subtitles in German.
PI: Do any of you play any sports?
Corinna: I play football. Well, soccer.
